How to respond to mental health stigma


Responding to mental health stigma involves a combination of education, advocacy, and personal commitment to creating a more understanding of mental health is . It is important that mental health professionals promote open dialogue and clarifications for family, co-workers, children , youths and people is all areas of life to have a deep knowledge on the subject ,with the hope that they will be more empathic and kind instead of  the stigma.

 Here are a few tips as to how to respond to mental health stigma:

1. Respond to any negative comments by providing some facts on mental health .

2. Never isolate yourself when someone wants you to feel ashamed.

3. Respond by saying ,there is no shame when one is experiencing a challenge .

4. Maintain a positive attitude and educate if you can 

5. Talk openly about mental health and refer individuals to available resources if you can .
